I’ve had this Kiki doll pattern bookmarked for about 2 years and started the head & body back then (Update: hmm looks like the Kiki link now defaults to iCloud closed. Thank goodness I finished her in time !). I had searched and searched for a nice classy doll as opposed to weird 70 style.
And now I’ve finally finished her!!

My 4.5 yr old is obssesed by Tangled so I decided to do rapunzel. I intended to make a princess dress making it up as I went along but it started to look like a tutu so I made it into a ballet dress instead! My daughter is very pleased with it and has asked for lots of clothes for her.

20120610-113827.jpg Thanks to Planet June for this pear pattern. Having wanted something for a doorstop instead of the old bag of cat food holding it open I thought a pear shape would be nice. I used a 12mm hook & chunky wool, following same stitches etc and a sock full bag of rice within the stuffing. Because of the rice I didn’t pull the stalk or ends right through the pear.

… They say it’s easy. I’m on my fifth attempt at a granny square hexagon and I think I’m finally there!

Here’s some pics of the 1st three attempts- the top 1st two being the same pattern and yarn!

Not sure why I found it so hard, probably not counting properly. Now the difficult thing is finishing the hex with dc – the single chains between the trevbes seem quite difficult to do

Pink crochet scarfI love this photo of dudelet. I just finished it ready for winter. I crocheted it in Sidar Big Softie and he chose the colour – Marshmallow and he insisted on wearing his Disney 3D glasses for most of the day.

O my, I just got back from iKnit Weekender – I’m so excited – I bought some 25 knitting needles and crochet hook from http://www.ingidwagner.com! I’ve started 2 rows before dudelet and dudelette return. Dudelet will be so excited they look even more like knight swords than my 20mm ones!

The show wasn’t v crowded esp. compared to last year. I heard alot of stall holders saying the Saturday was v quiet. Not so good for the stall holders and ultimately even thou everyone has gone eco/recycle/make-it-mend-it crazy, there’s still alot of outlay for this expensive little hobby …

I’ve been scouring the library & friends for all crochet books and this was one of the last ones I got hold of. It seems to have some of the best instructions that any of them have, it has good pictures which make sense (how many do you stare at when you start, going … duh … what .. how …) but the 1st projects are – whoah – seem v complicated to the beginner – I’ve just made a flower which you create a chain round the back of a round – that’s the 1st project?!

I’ve taught myself to cochet – just about. It’s so much fun esp after the effort to ‘get it’. As I sit watching my fingers work the magic of hoops and loops – it always looks so incomprehensible – I enjoy the sensation of being part of something so universal and  historical. Then my mind does a flip and I think – how come I’ve been sitting here wasting time making lots of knots with a piece of wool …

Anyways I told that part of my mind to go away and I’m blissfully making a little jewelry bag – thou I’m not sure why as I don’t wear jewelry – well it looks so nice!

Time flies and it’s a year later. My attempts at knitting have been small stuff for the school fayre at slave labour prices. Ravelry is now my first point of call for knitting and now crocheting but hopefully I’ll be updating this. There’s so much great stuff out there it’s enough to put you off … <sigh>

I finally finished the bag I was knitting for a friend. it took alot of sweat and tears and frogging to get the buttonhole handle bit right … and then I had the 2nd handle to do

It’s from 25 bags to knit by Emma King. I added some gorgeous yellow golden with a hint of red lining that I found and I had some great appreciation my dudelet who said “wow a treasure bag, it’s beautiful – can you knit me one exactly like that … except in blue”. Ah I treasure these days.

I can see why finishing a project is hard, it took alot longer than I thought and as it’s my first bag a couple of goes at lining to get the measurements right!

I postponed our holiday because Dudelet wanted to go to a party (He’s only 4!). Well actually it’s also because I’d seen a DPNS knitting lesson at a knit shop I found not too far away on the day we were meant to leave so I was easily persuaded when he suggested, ney insisted on going on the Sunday! It was great! It’s much easier to have someone show you esp if you are time short and often too tired to check out stuff online if and when you have a free moment. I also found out how to do a Long Tail Cast-on – thanks nickerjack.

If anyone is looking for a great shop and also knitting lessons and you’re passing Putney here it is Stash – they’ve got an online shop too. Lucky for my purse I had to scurry off to take Dudelet to his party as they had lots of scrummy yarns.
