… They say it’s easy. I’m on my fifth attempt at a granny square hexagon and I think I’m finally there!

Here’s some pics of the 1st three attempts- the top 1st two being the same pattern and yarn!

Not sure why I found it so hard, probably not counting properly. Now the difficult thing is finishing the hex with dc – the single chains between the trevbes seem quite difficult to do

Pink crochet scarfI love this photo of dudelet. I just finished it ready for winter. I crocheted it in Sidar Big Softie and he chose the colour – Marshmallow and he insisted on wearing his Disney 3D glasses for most of the day.

O my, I just got back from iKnit Weekender – I’m so excited – I bought some 25 knitting needles and crochet hook from http://www.ingidwagner.com! I’ve started 2 rows before dudelet and dudelette return. Dudelet will be so excited they look even more like knight swords than my 20mm ones!

The show wasn’t v crowded esp. compared to last year. I heard alot of stall holders saying the Saturday was v quiet. Not so good for the stall holders and ultimately even thou everyone has gone eco/recycle/make-it-mend-it crazy, there’s still alot of outlay for this expensive little hobby …

I’ve been scouring the library & friends for all crochet books and this was one of the last ones I got hold of. It seems to have some of the best instructions that any of them have, it has good pictures which make sense (how many do you stare at when you start, going … duh … what .. how …) but the 1st projects are – whoah – seem v complicated to the beginner – I’ve just made a flower which you create a chain round the back of a round – that’s the 1st project?!

I’ve taught myself to cochet – just about. It’s so much fun esp after the effort to ‘get it’. As I sit watching my fingers work the magic of hoops and loops – it always looks so incomprehensible – I enjoy the sensation of being part of something so universal and  historical. Then my mind does a flip and I think – how come I’ve been sitting here wasting time making lots of knots with a piece of wool …

Anyways I told that part of my mind to go away and I’m blissfully making a little jewelry bag – thou I’m not sure why as I don’t wear jewelry – well it looks so nice!

Time flies and it’s a year later. My attempts at knitting have been small stuff for the school fayre at slave labour prices. Ravelry is now my first point of call for knitting and now crocheting but hopefully I’ll be updating this. There’s so much great stuff out there it’s enough to put you off … <sigh>

For some reason WordPress emails me as Katie – I thought I was replying to a commentor and it fact I was talking to myself until I noticed!! O well off to knit some more …
